Herculaneum Scrolls RECITED in GREEK
Become a fluent reader in Latin, Ancient Greek, Biblical Hebrew, and Old English with the courses at the Ancient Language Institute (ALI): ancientlanguage.com/
In the previous video on the Herculaneum Scrolls ( ruclips.net/video/vJL02voEzj8/видео.html ) we learned where Plato was buried, but I didn't have access to the original texts that reveal that new discovery. Now I do! and you can be among the first to read these words recently deciphered from 2,000-year-old papyri: Philodemus of Gadara in his own words.

Macedonians have been speaking the slavic Macedonian Language since 600bc , and we love it , real simple . how you say it is how its spelt . No 2 words are the same , and no silent letters . And we want it to be different from the Greeks . Because they copied everthing we did .

"The Macedonians were Greeks. Their language was Greek, to judge by their personal names and by the names of the months of the calendar. Macedonian ambassadors could appear before the Athenian assembly without needing interpreters. In all Demosthenes' sneers about their civilization there is no hint that Macedonians spoke other than Greek". George Cawkwell, professor of ancient history in Oxford University. But let's not say he was Greek and spoke Greek. Let's say he miiight spoke alien. Imagine if we find an ancient Chinese inscription in the USA that will prove that the Indians were actually Chinese !!!!! I mean we could say that they were indians of course....but what if we found the Chinese inscription???? What if Alexander was from Mars and we find martian inscriptions????😱😱😱

prestige lang? why did nt he change it to his lang when he conquered the so called known world... and because you ask, you understand greek's anxiety if they want to conquer some land, as you said, but i dont understand why do nt you have the same empathy for conquering, or stealing, other people's history...it is not only nationalistic, unethical, unhistorical, dangerous, but it is also pathetic... maybe you dont care, which i dont understand, but imagine if some greek, albanian, or even french or so, called some parts of your latin (i am guesing here..), chinese, or whatever history as theirs, naming airports, even countries, using , or maybe better, APPROPRIATING, symbols, customs, etc? you just dont understand , i assume, because you are not in the position, the positionality, of being a balkan, or in this case, a greek....a scientist, when he investigates and analyses cases, must always consider his/her positionality, as this affect the bias that will eventually come to the surface, with tremendous impact on the quality of the research's result.... you cant win bias, but you can learn to recognize it, and maybe control it...

Philosophy is nominally defined love of wisdom. Wise is said of virtuous man, the man of expectationally skill in his profession and man who possess sublime knowledge or science of things. From this we can infer that philosophy seeks knowledge primarily for its own sake, and not for the sake of its utility in daily life; a true lover seeks the object of his love for its own sake and not for the sake of another. Some might suppose that the study of philosophy is futile because it seeks knowledge not primarily sought for the sake of utility in daily life. Three reasons, and a sign can be put forth against this: perfection of the human intellect is found in knowledge, proper operation of man as man( by which he differs from other living beings) is intellectual operation, which operation has knowledge for its object( each thing seeks its proper operation), man is united to his principle through the principle of the intellect( each thing seeks to be unites to its principle) and we love our senses even when they are not of use to us in daily because they inform which signifies the that we seek knowledge from the intellect for its own sake as it informs us. Though, sought for the sake of knowledge alone, a part of philosophy is practical. Real definition of philosophy is knowledge of all things through first causes from light of natural reason. The first division of philosophy is into theoretical and practical, theoretical philosophy is divided into real theoretical philosophy and logic. Practical philosophy is divided into three parts: individual moral, domestic moral and civil moral. Philosophy requires three-fold treatment which almost always begins the study of Logic.

It's true that in Italian we should have the open and close "e" and "o", but in reality we don't. Almost everybody uses just one of them, depending on our regional dialects, and many people use the middle "e" and "o", so I wouldn't say that it's accurate to say we have the close and open vowels. That's why we rely more on IPA charts than on similarities with our sounds when learning a new language.

Give me someone who speaks fluent and idiomatic Latin or Greek with a completely wrong pronunciation any day over someone with a perfect pronunciation but stilted and unidiomatic language. Give me someone who understands what they are saying, who spontaneously adjusts their intonation to the meaning of their words, who effortlessly shifts between various registers, who speaks naturally yet wholly correctly and idiomatically about something they are genuinely interested in: I won't care one bit about their accent. It's great to do educational videos about historical phonology (like the one about ει, or the one about ζ), but this kind of insistence that everyone must perform this or that particular pronunciation is highly unhelpful. It will discourage people from learning, and take away their focus from what's really important (acquiring the actual language) to things that are very much accessory (acquiring a pitch-perfect accent). For all of us to improve, we need much, much more people who master the language itself to the point that they effectively can speak and thus contribute to an immersive environment. We need speakers. When there are enough of those, pronunciation will naturally converge to the accents which happen to be used by those who are most listened to (because they are the most worth listening to, or because they are the most popular, or because of anything else that lends them prestige). That is how natural language really works. But to make that happen, we first need to make these living languages again. We need to foster learning, and for that we need content in idiomatic Latin, content in idiomatic Greek, not perfect (or, if you ask me, even remotely accurate) pronunciation. 💜🖤

2:43-2:54 Upon rewatching this video a second time, I have pretty much understood this without resorting to the English on the bottom, at least the gist. Does ὡς γυμνασάμενος translate to something like "so that I might be working out" or "as/like being in the state of exercising?" I would usually say something like ἵνα γυμνάζω, which may sound more common in Koine than in Attic.
